Happy Mother's Day!!!!

In honor of Mother’s Day, I’ve compiled a list of things that the children of writing mother’s everywhere can learn from us.

- Follow your dreams—no matter what your age.
- Never give up, even when things are tough.
- Believe in yourself, even when no one else does.
- You can be both very creative, and a very savvy business person.
- Learn to take criticism and use what will help you, and let the rest go.
- Learn how to handle rejection and learn from it, without letting it define you.
- Learn how to make friends and contacts wherever you go.
- It’s okay to play “what if” and live inside your imagination. It’s even better to get paid for it!
- Don’t let anyone steal your dream, no matter how well-meaning they might be.
- Anything worth having is worth working hard for.
- Don’t let anyone tell you how to live your life.
- Learn how to adapt to the many changes life throws at you.
- How to meet deadlines.
- How to plan workflow and work effort.
- You can make money doing something you love.
- There’s a whole lot less stress in life if you follow your passions.
- Fill your life with people and activities that give you joy.
- Don’t spend all your time worrying about what others think of you.
- Being a strong parent means doesn’t mean martyring yourself for your children.
- It’s okay and even necessary for a healthy person to set boundaries.

I’m sure there are several more. So I welcome comments and additions to this list.

A big Happy Mother’s Day shout out to all of you for having the courage to live your dream!

Tina, I like to think our two kids learned every single one of those points watching me trying to get published! I kept at it for twenty years, in spite of a lot of ridicule that came mostly from my family (mother and brothers)which made my eventual success even more affirming. I like to think I taught them never to give up and to always chase that dream, because if you run long enough and try hard enough--and believe in yourself--you'll eventually catch it.

Amen, Kate! :)

You're a great role model to not only your kids but your fellow authors :)

Happy Mother's Day!

If I would add anything I'd say:
Sometimes you just have to let some things slide.

What I mean is this: If all you have to fuss about is that your house is kinda messy, you're doing pretty damned good. There are all kinds of other things that could be going on that are much worse than a messy room.

I'd also say: You don't have to be a superhero. Do what you must, but also do what you enjoy. Know your limits and don't allow anyone to push you past your stress point. Period.

I can't think of a thing to add to your list, Tina. I do love the one on never giving up on your dreams. There's been many a time where I did flounder and think about it over the years, and I can honestly say that I'm glad I didn't give up. I'm finally starting to see progress and the door is starting to open for me.

Very nice post for today. Thanks!

That's a great list, Tina. Too many times we're discouraged from following our dreams!

Hi N.J. I totally agree - one of my affirmations is "No one can steal my dream," because so many people often try. I hope that's definitely something I pass on to my son!
