Gardening and Bunnies

A fine Memorial Day to everyone. I hope you all enjoy the day. Anyone else out there like to garden?

I enjoy gardening and am in the process of changing my current plot into raised beds. Well, I have a bunny nest in my onions. Last year, baby bunnies drove me nuts by eating my string bean plants. I’ll bet the mother of this current crop is one of the babies from last year, the stinker. That’s one of the reasons I decided to do the raised beds. I’ll take the fence down — it didn’t keep the baby bunnies out anyway — and lay the wire on top of the bed with the beans. Hopefully that will work. It used to be that our dog scared the living daylights out of any rabbit that dared set foot in our yard, but now at 13, he just lies in the shade and watches them hop around.

Anyway, have a wonderful day and good luck to all my gardening compatriots out there. May the bunnies leave your veggies in peace.

We don't have bunnies, but groundhogs used to wreck havoc in my garden. They're so easy to scare it's easy to keep them out or at least keep them from totally chomping things down to the nubbins.

Deer were a problem but we now have a fence, so that keeps them out in the woods. I don't mind them under the bird feeder out there but I do object to them in the middle of my hostas.

Wild turkeys were a nuisance for a while but they seem to have moved on to greener pastures. They didn't eat my vegetation but they poop everywhere and it was starting to smell like a chicken farm out there!

Good luck with the critters -- I'll count myself successful this year if I can keep the coons off the deck and out of my bird feeders .....

We're in the middle of town so we don't have to worry about deer, turkeys, or groundhogs. I do have a friend outside of town who had trouble with a bear in her bird feeders. Made me not complain about the squirrels so much.

Good luck with the critters. We had baby bunnies in a nest in our backyard one. Luckily our dog was on a run and couldn't get to where they were.
